What is Tongits?

About Tongits

Tongits is an engaging card game. Players empty their hands of cards by forming sets or minimising the total score before the end of the game.

Card Rank

  • A= 1 point
  • J, Q, K = 10 points
  • 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 = Face value

How to play

Twelve cards are dealt to each player, thirteen are dealt to the dealer, and the remaining cards are piled in the middle. When the dealer dumps a card, the game starts. The following player may choose to take a card from the central stack or pick up the discard card if it completes or adds to a set they already own.

Until someone wins by Tongits, initiates a battle or the central stack runs out of cards, people collect, pick, and discard cards. In such a case, each player counts the points on the cards they currently possess, and the one with the fewest points wins.

Some notes for players in Tongits

Meld

To win the game, a player must gather a set of matching cards known as Meld. A player can choose to lay down or keep a meld after they've collected it. To call or challenge a fight, a player must reveal at least one meld; if they have a "secret," they may challenge but not engage in combat.

Tongits

A player wins by Tongits if they can use every card in their deck in combinations, connect to an opponent's set, expose every set, or get rid of every card.

Fight

  • A player must place a meld on the table to initiate a fight, and during that round, no player may discard any cards on any of their melds.
  • When one player initiates combat, the other players have the option to fold or challenge the player who does not have any hidden or exposed melds.
  • Regardless of the card rotation, the player to the right of the person who called the fight wins if they have a higher count than the other two players who are tied and have a lower count.

Deck Empty

  • The game is over when there are no more cards in the central stack. A player forfeits their turn if they have no exposed melds. The winner is the player with the fewest overall points.
  • The player who removes the final card from the central stack wins if there is a tie for the fewest points.
  • The player to the right of the person who selected the final card wins if the two players who tied did not choose the final card.
